I’m a wood carving artist based in South East Queensland, Australia, creating finely crafted sculptures inspired by nature, wildlife and the ancient world. I’ve been making and creating for as long as I can remember, whether that’s sketching, writing or playing music, and later on in life, woodworking…
Like many children in my era, I dreamt of growing up to become Dr. Alan Grant from the Jurassic Park movies and while this particular dream faded, I eventually stumbled upon my own form of paleontology, wood carving. At least, I like to imagine that I’m a paleontologist, looking for the hidden form inside of wood instead of rock, every pass of the tool exposing and shaping the sculpture inside.
Today, I specialize in hand-crafted sculptures that embrace the beauty and character of both the natural word and the fantasy. Animals, organic forms and textures drawn from nature feature strongly in my work. Having each piece of wood, it’s grain and character, dictate to me what it will become, makes the result feel alive, authentic and meaningful, which is what I strive for as an artist.
